Containment was estimated at 70-percent today at the 3,100-acre Angora fire. Temperatures are expected to be 77-80 degrees, which is slightly higher than yesterday. Humidity is expected to be 14-18 percent, down slightly lower than yesterday. Fire crews will continue perimeter control operations to threatened communities. Line improvement and mop up activities will continue to be completed upto 300 feet inside of the fireline.

______________________________________

A fire that started at Angora Lakes has moved to Meyers, destroying at least 220 homes in its path. It has currently burned 2,500 acres and is threatening another 500 structures and a South Lake Tahoe high school. Over 1,000 people have been forced to evacuate. Last night homes along the Tahoe Mountain Road in densely wooded subdivisions have been “exploding in flames”. Winds have added a disadvantage to containing the fire, which gusted at 25-35 mph Sunday night but lowered to 12 mph overnight.

The main fire is between U.S. 50 at Echo Creek and North Upper Truckee and is headed toward California 89. All of the Tahoe Paradise area has been evacuated and Gardner Mountain is on alert. Over 350 firefighters are on the scene with 100 engines. The South Lake Tahoe Fire Department lost an engine and a chief’s car, but no one has been injured.

The cause of the fire has led to unattended campfires in the Angora Lakes area. The fire has not affected Incline Village and the North Lake Tahoe area at all, nor is it headed in this direction. For more information, please check out the Tahoe Daily Tribune website,  NBC's local news website, and the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District website.
